Jim Spohrer directs IBM’s open source Artificial Intelligence developer ecosystem effort. He led IBM Global University Programs, co-founded IBM Almaden Service Research, and was IBM CTO Venture Capital Group. After his MIT BS in Physics, he developed speech recognition systems at Verbex (Exxon) before receiving his Yale PhD in Computer Science/AI. In the 1990’s, he attained Apple Computers’ Distinguished Engineer Scientist and Technologist role for next generation learning platforms. With over ninety publications and nine patents, he received the Gummesson Service Research award, Vargo and Lusch Service-Dominant Logic award, Daniel Berg Service Systems award, and a PICMET Fellow for advancing service science.

Dr. Roberto Desimone

Global crisis response management using AI, ML and quantum technologies

Roberto has over 30 years expertise in exploiting emerging technologies for government/commercial clients, especially for military command decision-making and crisis response management tasks, with a PhD in machine learning (1989) from Edinburgh University. Since 2010, he has been leading a team of maverick scientists, engineers and consultants at BAE Systems Applied Intelligence, exploiting these emerging technologies for disruptive business applications. He is also working part-time as an Entrepreneur in Residence at the Quantum Engineering Technology Laboratory at Bristol University (funded by the Royal Society), and a Visiting Professor of quantum systems engineering at Loughborough University.

The effect of Covid-19 infection on the bio-mechanics of voice production: a computational perspective

Dr. Rita Singh is an Associate Research Professor at the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University, USA. Her academic career spans over two decades of research on a wide range of topics in the areas of speech and audio processing, Her current work is focused on developing the science of profiling humans from their voice, a sub-area of Artificial Intelligence and Voice Forensics. The technology pioneered by her group has led to two world firsts: In September 2018, her team created the world’s first live voice-based human profiling system, demonstrated live at the World Economic Forum. In 2019 her group also created the world’s first instance of human voice – that of the artist Rembrandt – generated entirely based on evidence from facial images.

Dr. Xin Gao

Dr. Xin Gao is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Saudi Arabia. He is also the Associate Director of the Computational Bioscience Research Center, Deputy Director of Smart Health Initiative, and the lead of the Structural and Functional Bioinformatics Group at KAUST. Dr. Gao’s research group works on building computational models, developing machine learning techniques, and designing efficient and effective algorithms to tackle key open problems along the path from biological sequence analysis, to 3D structure determination, to function annotation, to understanding and controlling molecular behaviors in complex biological networks, and, recently, to biomedicine and healthcare. He has published more than 200 papers in the fields of bioinformatics and machine learning. He is the associate editor of Genomics, Proteomics & Bioinformatics, BMC Bioinformatics, and Quantitative Biology, Journal of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology.,

From the Basement to the Cloud: Developing a Covid-19 Testing Pipeline

With a background in biomedical research and software engineering, Marissa joined the Broad Institute in 2019. When the pandemic struck the northeast in March, the Broad made a quick pivot to provide much-needed testing for hospitals and care facilities around New England. With this, there was a need for informatics support to store patient information safely and securely, while also processing test results at scale and delivering those results back to patients. Marissa led the design and implementation of the informatics for the Broad’s testing pipeline, which has since evolved to process more than 70,000 Covid-19 tests per day.

Kazuo Yano is a Fellow, Hitachi, and CEO, Happiness Planet. He is known for the pioneering works in the world-first room-temperature single-electron memories. He has pioneered the measurement and analysis of social big data and have succeeded quantifying the happiness from physical motion. He has founded Happiness Planet. in 2020. He has applied over 350 patents and his papers are cited by over 2500 papers. His book, “The Invisible Hand of Data,” is cited as one of top-10 business books in Japan. NOBUO KAWAGUCHI received the Ph.D. in computer science from Nagoya University in 1997. Since 2014, he has been a Professor with the Institutes of Innovation for Future Society, Nagoya University. He founded a NPO called Lisra (Location Information Service Research Agency) for promoting location system research in 2012. He is one of the founders of the autonomous vehicle startup, TierIV Inc, and served a board member since 2015. His research interests are in the areas of human activity recognition, smart city/society systems, and ubiquitous information systems.

Professor Jianxi Luo is Director of Data-Driven Innovation Lab at Singapore University of Technology & Design (SUTD). He holds a PhD in Engineering Systems and MS in Technology Policy from MIT, and MS and BE in Engineering from Tsinghua University. His research fuses design science, system science and data science to develop artificial intelligence for innovative decision making. He has over one hundred publications and a dozen international academic awards. Possibility of highly precise educational big-data collected by controlling the timing of occurrence of learning/testing events

The main theme of presenter’s research is to construct the theory of human cognition (AI). In the theorizing process, it was found that the effects of slight encounters experienced several months ago continue to remain (Terasawa, 1997). This led to the invention of the Microstep scheduling method, which enables the measurement of the effect of large data of each event that occurred during long-term, continuous, and daily learning activities. In addition, systems that can collect a large amount of longitudinal data controlled by time dimension conditions were built, and individual unconscious improvement in performance was observed.

Previously he has worked as a professor for industrial automation at Vaasa University and research director for a market research company.
