Dear TCPP Members,
In the current time when science is debated with opinion, ignored, or silenced, we are happy to reunite ourselves into a technical community that helps tighten our ties and advance our knowledge. By having people work together, we find new ideas, and our community helps to share these with our future members. This cycle of advancement in knowledge is a precious asset, may we help it last through our gathering and events!
Speaking of which, you will find in this newsletter reminders for upcoming gathering events, and deadlines for events happening a little later. You will also find a message from Alfredo Goldman, Chair since last June, who reflects on his (almost complete) first year in position. And as usual, we will congratulate the last award recipients!
TCPP news from the Chair Alfredo Goldman
Hello everyone, sorry for the lack of newsletters these last times, I am getting used to be TCPP chair (and now, I know that Anne Benoit had a lot of work).
- To engage more students in Parallel Computing and HPC, TCHPC and TCPP (Manish and I) created a joint call to allow students to attend two leading conferences (SC and IPDPS);
- To promote education on Parallel Computing, we created this year the TCPP Award for Excellence in Parallel and Distributed Computing Education, the first recipient will be announced at IPDPS in Milano in June.
I would also like to announce that we have two vice-chairs to support TCPP activities: Alba Melo and Ananth Kalyanaraman
To finish, I want to let you know that we have some new conferences under the TCPP umbrella.
I hope to see you soon at IPDPS in Italy!
Awards
We congratulate the following people for their awards in the field of HPC:
[Early Career] Maciej Besta (ETH Zurich), Guanpeng Li (University of Iowa), and Xin Liang (University of Kentucky) received the 2024 IEEE-CS TCHPC Early Career Researchers Award for Excellence in High Performance Computing.
[Charles Babbage Award] Srinivas Aluru (Georgia Institute of Technology) received this award for pioneering contributions to the field of Parallel Computational Biology.
