TCSE support to sustainability initiatives

The IEEE Computer Society (CS) and the Technical Community on Software Engineering (TCSE) are dedicated to promoting sustainability and reducing the environmental impact of their events. While in-person conferences play a vital role in sharing knowledge and building collaborations, they can also have a considerable environmental cost—particularly due to long-distance travel, the resources required to organize and host events, and the waste generated during conferences.

Our goal is to organize events that not only advance research but also uphold strong environmental responsibility. To achieve this, we encourage and support all events to adopt clear, practical measures that reduce their environmental footprint and increase awareness of sustainable practices within the research community.

TCSE provides funding to support sustainability initiatives as a testament to its long-term commitment to a greener future and a more sustainability-conscious community. If you have a new idea or need support for an existing initiative, please reach out to the sustainability co-chairs.

In 2026, TCSE funded the sustainability campaign “Awareness through Knowledge Drops” at the premier IEEE International Conference on Software Architecture (ICSA), lead by Professor Patricia Lago.
