About the Awards
Scope/Eligibility of Awards
The Technical Committee on Very Large Scale Integration (TCVLSI) of the IEEE Computer Society (IEEE-CS) addresses the interactions among the various aspects of VLSI design including system-level design, logic-level design, circuit-level design, and semiconductor processes. In order to encourage growth, wider participation and acknowledge the contributions (research and scientific community service) of TCVLSI members towards IEEE-CS Technical Committee on VLSI, a set of 6 awards in different categories is proposed. The decision of the Award committee for a specific year is considered final. The committee can make a decision to give one award for each of the categories, or one award for selected of the categories, etc. as may be the case for one year to other. Nominated candidates must be an active member of TCVLSI and show some contribution towards the development of TCVLSI.
IEEE-CS-TCVLSI Best Ph.D. Dissertation/Thesis Award
The IEEE-CS TCVLSI Best Ph.D. Dissertation/Thesis Award recognizes contributions of individuals in terms of high quality research in the field of VLSI (especially emerging areas that provides a paradigm shift). Eligible candidates must have evidence of strong publications in premier IEEE (or equivalent such as ACM and IET) periodicals related to VLSI (or equivalent area) consistently for a period of at least 3 years. Eligible candidate must be an active member of TCVLSI community. The candidate must be an IEEE Graduate Member (or equivalent in other Professional Societies such as ACM or IET) to be considered. It may consist of a plaque and a citation.
IEEE-CS-TCVLSI Mid-Career Research Achievement Award
The IEEE-CS TCVLSI Mid-Career Research Achievement Award recognizes contributions of professionals in terms of high quality research in the field of VLSI (especially emerging areas that provides a paradigm shift). Eligible candidates must have evidence of strong publications in premier IEEE (or equivalent such as ACM and IET) periodicals related to VLSI (or equivalent area) consistently for a period of at least 8 years. Eligible candidate must be an active member of TCVLSI community. The candidate must be an IEEE Senior Member (or equivalent in other Professional Societies such as ACM or IET) to be considered. It may consist of a plaque and a citation.
IEEE-CS-TCVLSI Distinguished Research Award
The IEEE-CS TCVLSI Distinguished Research Award recognizes significant and outstanding research contributions to the VLSI community through a leadership position. The award is based on the impact of research contributions made to the VLSI community. The candidate must have demonstrated research excellence for a period of at least 10 years. The candidate must be an IEEE Senior Member or Fellow (or equivalent in other Professional Societies such as ACM or IET) to be considered and must be an active member of TCVLSI community. It may consist of a plaque and a citation.
IEEE-CS-TCVLSI Distinguished Leadership Award
The IEEE-CS TCVLSI Distinguished Leadership Award recognizes significant and outstanding contributions to the TCVLSI community in a leadership position. The award is based on the impact of contributions/services rendered for the growth of TCVLSI across the globe. The candidate must be in a leadership position and have demonstrated excellence in shaping the IEEE-CS in terms of research or community growth for a period of at least 6 years. The candidate must be an IEEE Senior Member or Fellow (or equivalent in other Professional Societies such as ACM or IET) to be considered and must have an outstanding research profile for a period of at-least 12 years or more. It may consist of a plaque and a citation.
IEEE-CS-TCVLSI Life-Time Achievement Award
The IEEE-CS TCVLSI Life-Time Achievement Award recognizes contributions of professionals in terms of high quality research in the field of VLSI (especially emerging areas that is provides a paradigm shift). Eligible candidates must have evidence of strong publications in premier IEEE (or equivalent such as ACM and IET) periodicals, and/or patents related to VLSI (or equivalent area) consistently for a period of at least 20 years. Eligible candidate must be an active member of TCVLSI community. The candidate must be an IEEE Fellow (or equivalent in other Professional Societies such as ACM or IET) to be considered. It may consist of a plaque and a citation.
IEEE-CS-TCVLSI Outstanding Editor Award
The IEEE-CS TCVLSI Outstanding Editor Award recognizes sustained contributions of an IEEE-CS-TCVLSI VCAL Editorial Board member made for a period of at least 2 years. The candidate must demonstrate evidence of contribution made that led to the growth of VCAL and must be an active member of TCVLSI community.
Processing of the Award Applications
Call for Nominations (PDF)
Award Nominations
There will be separate ‘Call for Nominations’ document prepared and floated on TCVLSI website around January every year. It will contain the deadline for submission of the nominations (self-nominations will be allowed) and deadline for notification of the successful award recipient.
Award Nomination Processing
There will be selection committee formed by Chair, TCVLSI that will include competent people who will assess the application against the set criteria (described above for each award) and will decide the award outcome.
Award Eligibility
Once a candidate receives the IEEE-CS TCVLSI Distinguished Leadership Award, or IEEE TCVLSI Distinguished Research Award, or IEEE-CS TCVLSI Mid-Career Research Achievement Award, he/she is disqualified to receive it second time. Fresh candidate will be awarded in subsequent years. However, if in any year, no application is deemed suitable for the above awards, the committee will be empowered to not award anyone for a specific year(s).
Note: Awards in the category of IEEE-CS TCVLSI Technical Excellence Award and IEEE TCVLSI Outstanding Editor Award may be repeated to same candidate more than once in worthy cases, however not during immediate consecutive two years. For example, if a candidate receives an award in 2017, then he cannot be considered immediately for next two years (2018 & 2019). However, if in any year, no application is deemed suitable for the above awards, the committee will be empowered to not award anyone for a specific year(s). The decision of award committee is final on the award matters.
Award Distributions
The successful individuals will be honored with the award every year during IEEE-CS Annual Symposium on VLSI (ISVLSI).
